i. Travel Light – be Prepared
Whether you are travelling alone, a couple, in a small group, or in larger groups, it’s always the same: The more you travel light, the more cost effective, and the more prepared you are, the more cost effective. Most ultra-lite surfer-travellers I know only bring a medium-sized backpack and his/her quiver, which is maximum two boards! Okay okay so you really need more, this is where prepping comes in: you’d know exactly what not to bring.
Ask us for some sweet advice. We can also help you set up a hub for your lengthy surf trip, as everywhere we have destinations we’d have a hub ready for you, for example in Indonesia we have Bandung for the cool hub, as well as other hubs as needed. With a hub you get to travel light on each surf stint while having the option to travel full arriving from home.
ii. Group Size
Usually the more of you in one group, the more cost effective your trip will be. This is mostly true if one of your main expenses is air tickets, where usually the more you go together the cheaper your group tickets will be. However, at certain destinations it may prove to be more cost effective to have smaller groups.
One thing for sure, if you’re travelling alone or in very small groups, you’re going to have a hard time seeking efficient costs. This is partly why Wayang Ombak often offers ‘Jump On a Trip’ ~ look out for it. Jump On a Trip are ready-made trips that are shared with permission by the trip initiators.
iii. Beds & Lodging
Homestays, self-catered establishments or camping is usually cheaper, though may not necessarily be effective to your specific trip. For example, the necessity of a good food & rest to build up for tomorrow’s surf sessions may need to outweigh lodging and food costs, or, its just too dang cold for camping! Mind you, we’re notorious for our ability to lodge guests with real local hosts which is as stoked as you are, and our camping fun is also dream-like.
iv. Transportation Modes
If you are alone or a couple, using public transportation modes is usually much more cost effective, while mid-sized to big-size groups and families usually can get better value for money by using custom-tailored transportation modes. Ask us for advice.
v. Time Spent in One Location
More time in one area is more cost-effective, as well as more time spent in the whole of your trip, because the more days you spend, big chunks like airline ticket costs will look much smaller. We’ve never met any of our guests complaining about uneffective costs when they are in thirty day or sixty day trips.
