Wayang Ombak
Wayang Ombak literally means ‘Wave Puppets’, which somehow almost perfectly embodies the spirit of surfing, which is more about catching the moment of bliss and one-ness with the Creator and creation, rather than anything else. One thing for sure, it isn’t about videos, bleached hair, ostensive brand names, megabuck contests and cool clothing.
Wayang Ombak was founded by Dicky Nurmawan, Bali, myself and Kankabono Mustafa in 2007. We have always been a core of active members of surfers and non-surfers who care about nature, the soul of surfing, and sharing the stoke. You’re welcome to be part of us and be at one.
In the beginning our surf trips were only for members and friends, then since 2008 it’s open for all. Most of our trips have one or more WO members being with you from the start, or for a spell in between, or we just pop up and surf with you. Its just a cool way that way …
Most of WO’s Surf Trips are geared to what we want in a surf trip – stoke – which usually means uncrowded lineups and coming to the surf spot exactly at the conditions we want it to be. So be prepared. Wayang Ombak would seriously NOT consider setting up a trip for you if it is crowded, or if the surf’s mush, or even if the non-surf conditions are a bit dodgy. That said, some trips can be totally customised, so it isn’t strange that most enquiries are for family trips, couples, company outings, undergrads, students, and just-for-fun friend groups.
WO Surf Trips are generally capped to a maximum of eighteen participants, some are capped at just six.
