Surfing

It is as timeless as it is in-time – the ‘moment’ – surfing is probably the only well known ’sport’ that actually has a soul, so just let go and take the plunge!

Surfing is an art form, a pastime, a rather physically-demanding sport, a leisure activity and a lifestyle. It is self-expression, it is individual achievement, and it is a humbling experience of flowing with nature.

It is fun and frightening, frustrating and rewarding, gentle and overwhelming and a potent form of meditation.

Everything else is extraneous: fashion, politics, aggression, judgement, and hierarchy. It’s all there and it’s all irrelevant and whether or not you decide to get involved, will govern the future direction of the lifestyle that we all love so much.

So grab your board, have some fun, open your eyes, and go out and help to make the water a much safer and more enjoyable place for us all to share. It is well worth it.

Wayang Ombak

Wayang Ombak literally means ‘Wave Puppets’, which somehow almost perfectly embodies the spirit of surfing, which is more about catching the moment of bliss and one-ness with the Creator and creation, rather than anything else. One thing for sure, it isn’t about bleached hair, ostensive brand names, and cool clothing.

Wayang Ombak offers a different taste in surf travel which hopes to be much more holistic, and through community services we try to keep it real for the planet, the locals and the soul of surfing. Wayang Ombak was founded by Dicky and Bali in 2007. Me and Bono joined soon after. Now we have a core of active members and executive members of surfers and non-surfers who care about nature, the soul of surfing, and sharing the stoke. Click this for info on memberships.

Surf Trips

Wayang Ombak’s mission statement is to have you experience the soul and essence of surfing in a safe, healthy, whole manner where ‘fun and stoke’ permeates with ‘being at peace and being at one’. Our custom trips are meant to befit more as powerful journeys & landscapes for one’s body and soul!

It is built mainly on the basis of ‘getting there’ as a sweet experience, ‘being there’ on the best possible surf conditions, and ‘going home’ with no goodbyes! We do this by being stoked on getting you stoked!

The problems of today’s surf travel and surf travel guide books:  superficiality, commercialism, and crowds.

Schedules & Forecasting

When we don’t have any trips to a spot at any given time, or when we turn down your requests to organize a trip for you or your group, more often than not it simply means that the destinations is below its own average in surf conditions, or, it just doesn’t fit with your own surf requirements!

To get the best out of your surf trip, you can specify what you want in regards to surf conditions and wave types, and yes, you can specify ‘below-average’ conditions as well as ‘above-average’, for example, a known medium-sized wave spot can be ‘below-average’ if the swell is too small (smaller waves) or too big (bigger, squarish waves).

We will only organize a surf trip for you if its schedule fits okay with the best possible (if not perfect) surf conditions, as per your requests, in each planned destination.

Costs

Most of your surf trip costs will be custom tailored specifically for you or your group. Depending on the trip types and if we have set some form of growth programs in the destinations, your surf trip costs might include a small donation for these programs as well as a donation for Wayang Ombak.

We will always get you the best or lowest costs from all the businesses and service providers in your destinations. These savings and prices go directly to you by providing you the best services possible for the best rates possible.

We believe pure stoke can’t be measured in regions of water nor in locations, but we sure believe that by being more efficient, it’s possible for us to get more stoked! Click the link below for some tips.

Bookings & Payments

It’s a great idea to start building your custom trips as early as possible. Being early means more chances to fine-tune your surf trips, for example, get the best choice places to stay in, get low-fare tickets, and so on. In contrast, late bookings are somewhat more ’stiff’.

Wayang Ombak has a sweet and simple booking system
i.  browse Surf Trips, book all the trips you may want
ii.  you’ll be sent a few surf trip choices, each with detailed costings
iii.  confirm the trips you choose
iv.  you’ll get a detailed invoice
v.  pay your required refundable booking fees or trip costs as needed.

Most of our trips can be paid on the spot and do not require prepayments, but there are exceptions. Check out the ‘info & bookings’ pages of the surf trips you are interested in. Wayang Ombak has great payment options which can also accept barters! Click links below.
